Cognitive Assessment

This component assesses an individual’s cognitive abilities, including intelligence, memory, processing speed, and problem-solving skills. Common cognitive tests include the Wechsler Intelligence Scales (e.g., WISC for children, WAIS for adults) and the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities.

Academic Assessment

Purposes of a Psychoeducational Assessment

Learning Disability Identification

One of the primary purposes of a psychoeducational assessment is to identify specific learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These assessments help determine the nature and extent of the learning difficulties.

Educational Planning

The results of a psychoeducational assessment inform the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans in educational settings. These plans outline accommodations, modifications, and support services tailored to the individual’s needs.

Early Intervention
