How do I know if counselling or therapy is for me?

At WJW Counselling and Mediation, it’s not uncommon for our clients to wonder if they’re in the right place. It can be overwhelming and scary to seek support for our mental health or admit that we need help with a specific issue. If you think counselling might be right for you, it most likely is.

Our team of professionals inspires clients to make improvements in their lives. With the benefit of our extensive training and experience, you’ll be able to resolve the issues that are holding you back. The most effective counselling is a give and take. That’s why we work cooperatively to provide a wide range of therapeutic modalities that enable you to make positive changes.

How does it work?

At its heart, counselling is talk therapy. Not feeling so talkative? That’s okay – counselling is also a very individualized experience, so it’s alright if you need to warm up to sharing. We even provide play therapy and art therapy. Ultimately, we will take it slowly and do everything we can to make you comfortable.

We’ll start by having you fill out an online intake form to provide us with a bit more information and connect you to the right practitioner. What we won’t do is judge you. Instead, we like to think we’re entering into a partnership with you, by listening and providing guidance so that you can uncover solutions that work for you.

How do counselling and therapy differ?

Counselling targets specific issues, usually addressing a concern or resolving a problem over a limited time to empower you to take control of your own life. Therapy is generally longer term and focused on how you see yourself as an individual.

Maybe you want to improve communications or learn to set healthy boundaries. Perhaps you seek to overcome obstacles that are preventing you from achieving your goals. Counselling can provide you with strategies and coping skills as well as identify negative thinking patterns that may be holding you back. Therapy can provide you with a deeper understanding of yourself, leading to long term change and growth.

Our team of psychologists and social workers offer a full range of mental health services. From treatment for specific conditions to general life coaching, we’ll match you with the right practitioner for your needs. We offer counselling and therapy for:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Addiction and substance abuse
  • Autism
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Eating disorders
  • Grief and loss
  • Anger management
  • ADHD
  • Stress and burnout
  • Sports performance
  • Relationships
  • Workplace conflict
  • Trauma
  • Family of origin
  • Pre-marriage
  • Medical difficulties
  • And more…..

In addition, we provide mediation and arbitration support for divorce or separation, educational assessments, and relationship counselling for both you and your partner (including couples and family therapy).

The simplest answer is that counselling is for anyone and everyone. There is no shame in asking for help. Let us help you, with strategies that will give you what you need to regain control and feel like your best self.

There’s no need to struggle alone. Book a consultation and come in to see us. We look forward to working with you!
