(AAT) is a therapeutic approach that involves the inclusion of animals as part of the therapeutic process to improve the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of individuals. This unique form of therapy recognizes the healing power of the human-animal bond and has been shown to be effective in a variety of clinical settings.
Animal-assisted therapy is a versatile approach that can complement traditional therapeutic techniques. It harnesses the innate connection between humans and animals to foster healing, emotional growth, and improved well-being. However, it’s important to note that AAT should always be conducted by trained professionals in a safe and ethical manner to ensure the welfare of both the clients and the therapy animals involved. At WJW Counselling and Mediation Dr. Wendy Yasinski provides Canine-Assisted Therapy with her dog who has an amazing friendly and calming nature. He provides emotional support to help reduce anxiety as well as helps to improve social skills.
AAT typically involves interactions with trained therapy animals, which can include dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and even dolphins. These animals are carefully selected for their temperament, social skills, and suitability for therapeutic work. Here at WJW we have our best canine friend to join you if you so choose.
